Strange launch website for new Brittany Ferries ship Honfleur.
In March 2018, the steel cutting ceremony marked the first step in the construction of Brittany Ferries’ Honfleur, a 42,400 gross-tonne vessel, powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Honfleur promises to be the most environmentally friendly ship regularly operating in UK waters when she takes to the seas in June 2019. But she will also be a ship that presents a canvas of modernity, comfort and relaxation for passengers on the company’s busiest route, operating from Portsmouth to Caen.
Brittany Ferries can now tell the story of the build through a new website, www.destinationhonfleur.com built by Strange. The multilingual Drupal 8 website hosts regular news updates, video interviews and a stunning gallery featuring shipbuilding and destination imagery, all free to download in high resolution.
The creative and UX strategy for the site complements the technically advanced ship and the modern mobile first website design was created to appeal to a wide range of audiences and to serve as an information hub to showcase progress as she is constructed.
The Drupal 8 website also features an advanced technical stack including;
- Bootstrap 4 custom developed front end
- VueJS user interface elements such as the Event Timeline, Interactive Hotspots and modal overlays
- GreenSock powering custom animation requirements
The website was delivered on time and within budget and is now serving as a powerful communications platform for Brittany Ferries to showcase Honfleur.
