WordPress

WordPress builds for organisations that need their website to do real commercial work. By a team that's been building websites for 25 years.

WordPress, taken seriously

WordPress runs almost half the web for a reason. Built properly, on the right hosting, with the right plugins (and the right ones removed), it's a serious commercial platform. Built lazily, it's a security and performance liability that the next agency will quietly resent.

We treat WordPress with the same discipline we apply to enterprise builds. Real solution architecture, real integration design, real hosting, real ongoing support, real performance work. The platform is the easy part. Everything around it is where the value sits.

When WordPress is the right answer

WordPress fits when you need a content-led website that your marketing team can run day-to-day, with the flexibility to integrate into whatever else your business uses.

It's not always the right call. If your needs lean to high-throughput e-commerce, deeply complex content modelling or enterprise multi-site governance, we'll tell you so and recommend Shopify or Drupal instead.

It's the right call for:

  • B2B and professional services brands where the site is a lead-generation engine.
  • Content-heavy sites where editors need to publish without raising a ticket.
  • Multi-brand or multi-language sites where structure matters.
  • Sites that need to integrate with your CRM, marketing automation, payment, booking or membership systems.
  • Replatforms from ageing custom CMS's that nobody enjoys maintaining.

What we build on WordPress

New builds

Custom themes, custom blocks, proper Gutenberg work, with the editor experience treated as a first-class deliverable.

Replatforms

Custom CMS, Squarespace, Wix, Sitecore, anything to WordPress, including content migration that respects URLs, SEO and accessibility.

Integrations

HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Marketo, Stripe, PayPal, booking systems, membership platforms, custom APIs.

Performance and conversion work

CRO, Core Web Vitals, tracking and consent on existing WordPress sites.

Ongoing care

Hosting, security, patching, monitoring, and the senior team to call when something needs human attention.

The disciplines we bring

The reason most WordPress sites underperform isn't WordPress. It's the lack of senior craft around it. These are the things that compound.

AI can scaffold a WordPress site. It can't yet make these judgement calls.

Disciplines

  • Solution architecture before code.
  • Theme and block development that's clean, fast and easy to extend.
  • Plugin selection done with care (most sites we inherit have at least one plugin that should be deleted).
  • Performance built in from day one: caching strategy, asset optimisation, sensible image handling, Core Web Vitals.
  • Security hardening, dependency management, sensible secrets handling.
  • Tracking, consent and analytics set up properly, not as an afterthought.
  • Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA as a standard.
  • Documentation and handover that respects your future team.

What it looks like in practice

Opening quotation marks

When the group acquired Synergie Training I needed the website to do real commercial work, not just look the part. I brought Strange in because we'd worked together before and they'd delivered. They led the WordPress build, UX, information architecture, content, SEO and analytics, and we've seen double-digit growth in both sales revenue and course bookings since launch, still climbing. Easy to work with, hard to replace.

When clients come to us for WordPress work

  • A new site or replatform onto WordPress, where the brief is "make this work commercially, not just look modern."
  • A WordPress site that's slowed down, broken, or accumulated too many plugins to make sense of.
  • A migration from an ageing custom CMS to WordPress, with all the SEO, content and integration mapping that involves.
  • An in-house marketing team that's outgrown their current agency and needs a more senior partner.
  • A WordPress site that needs to integrate into a serious wider tech stack and has so far been treated as an island.

Common questions

Is WordPress secure enough for a real business? Yes, if it's built and run properly. Most WordPress security incidents trace back to neglected updates, badly chosen plugins, or weak hosting. We treat all three as part of the brief, not extras.

Will we be locked into using you afterwards? No. WordPress is open, the code is yours, and we build for handover. Most of our clients stay because the relationship works, not because they can't leave.

Can you take over a WordPress site we already have? Almost always. We start with a short audit (security, performance, plugin estate, hosting, tracking) and tell you what to fix first and what can wait.

Do you offer hosting and ongoing support? Yes. Managed hosting, monitoring, patching, security and a UK-based team for when something needs human attention.
